Professor Hector Fernandez has received his PhD in the National University of RA-or fourth UNRC Argentina during the period of 1974-1978 and was a postdoctoral research associate with Robert Osteryoung at the University of New York at Buffalo,USA. Currently he is working as a full Professor at the UNRC. He has successfully completed his administrative responsibilities as Dean of the Facultad de Ciencias Exactas UNRC during the period of 1992-1999. He has authored more than fifty research articles and book chapters and has been the editor of a book. He is a member of The National Council of Scientific and Technological Research CONICET, Argentina as a Principal Researcher. He is a AAQA ,AAIFQ and SIBAE fellow and he has been honored as President of Asociation of Argentina Quamicos Analyticos AAQA 2007-2009 and representative of AAQA in the Red Iberoamericana de Quamica Analytica RIQA 2010.

Zhixiong Guo has received his PhD in Polytechnic University, Brooklyn, New York during the period of 1999 to 2001. Currently, he is working as an Associate Professor in School of Engineering at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. He has authored/coauthored over 120 research articles/books. His pioneering work on ultrafast laser interaction with tissue and nearfield optical detection of nanoentities is well cited in the field and has an author h-index of 15 in SCI. His research has been funded by NSF, MTF, NIH, USDA and other sources. He is a member of ASME and OSA and is currently serving as a Technical Committee Chair in HTD of ASME. He has served as an organization/program member in a number of international conferences.

Rabah Boukherroub received a PhD in chemistry from the University Paul Sabatier in Toulouse, France. He is Associate Editor of Reviews in Advanced Sciences and Engineering, and on the editorial advisory board of Open Condensed Matter Physics Journal. He is a co-author of 220+ research publications and wrote several book chapters in subjects related to nanotechnology, materials chemistry, biosensors, and lab-on-chip devices. Eiichiro Ichiishi, M.D., Ph.D. male, graduated from medical department, Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine in 1992. He studied at Tokyo University as a special research student from 1998-2000. From 2007, he was promoted to professor of Japan Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST). Dr. Nazeih Botros, Ph.D., is the Coordinator of the Biomedical Engineering Program at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He is also a Professor in Department of Electrical and Computer Engineeringat Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He obtained his Ph.D. degree fromUniversity of Oklahoma in 1985. His research focuses on smart devises, modeling and simulation of biological mechanisms, pattern recognition and digital signal analysis. Dr. Botros is a senior member of IEEE and a member of several biomedical engineering advisory committees. He has authored a book in hardware simulation. He has numerous publications in conferences and Journals.

Dr. David Wood received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2001. Currently he is working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at The Ohio State University. He is also serving as an editorial board member for several reputed journals including the Journal of Biochemical Technology and the Journal of Chemical Engineering Process Technology. Dr. Thomas Webster, Ph.D. (H index 51) is the professor and chair of the Chemical Engineering Department in Northeastern University. The primary focus of his research is the design, synthesis, and evaluation of nanomaterials for various medical applications. This includes self-assembled chemistries, nanoparticles, nanotubes, and nanostructured surfaces for a diverse range of tissues, i.e. bone, cartilage, skin, neural, bladder and cardiovascular. Prof. Webster has started 9 companies.

Professor Webster′s research explores the use of nanotechnology in numerous applications. Specifically, his research addresses the design, synthesis, and evaluation of nanophase (that is, materials with fundamental length scales less than 100 nm) materials as more effective biomedical implants. These include self-assembled organic materials which mimic the natural nanometer dimensions of tissues.

Dr. Aihua Liu is a Full Professor of Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy & Bioprocess, Chinese Academy of Sciences, where he leads the Laboratory of Biosensing. He received his PhD degree from Tohoku University, Japan (2004) with major in bioelectrochemistry and biosensing. His research interests cover Nano-bio Controllable Self-Assembly, Biochips, Bisensors and Biofuel Cells. Dr Liu is the managing editor to Frontiers in Bioscience. He has published over 40 peer-reviewed papers in leading journals including Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Advanced Materials, Analytical Chemistry and Biosensors & Bioelectronics.

Dr Liu’s research interests cover Controllable Self-Assembly, Biochips, Bisensors and Biofuel Cells.

Dr. Peng Li is currently an Application Scientist at Rheonix,where he works closely with biologists and engineers to develop sample-in result-out microfluidics-based molecular diagnostic devices. He has authored and co-authored 15 papers in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings and he currently holds 2 US provisional patents in the area of microfluidics. He is also a reviewer of several reputed journals including Lab on a Chip, Applied Physics Letter, Nanotechnology, etc.

Dr. Emm. Mic. Drakakis is an academic member of staff of the Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London, where he joined in October 2001. Dr. Drakakis has studied Physics (4-year degree) at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUT) - Macedonia - Hellas, Electronic Physics and Radioelectrology (2.5-year MPhil degree) at the same university, and earned his PhD in Analog IC design under the supervision of Dr. Alison Payne from the Department of EEE-Imperial in May 2000 where he also conducted EPSRC-sponsored post-doctoral research. Dr. Preecha P. Yupapin received his B.Ed. in Physics, M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics, PhD in Electrical Engineering from Srinakarinwirote University, Mahidol University and City University of London  in 1981, 1983 and 1993  respectively. He was a post-doctor research fellowship in 1994 under the European Community research project. He has been appointed as a visiting professor at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia since 2007. He has been promoted as a Professor of Physics in the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), Bangkok, Thailand since 2009. He has authored/co-authored more than 401 published papers in SCOPUS database and 30 chapters and books. He has supervised 70 PhD Students and candidates in both local and international universities. He has also been appointed as an editorial board member and editor in chief of 10 international journals. Professor Yupapin is a member of Thai Institute Physics (TIP), SPIE, OSA senior membership, and was a president of the OSA-Thailand Chapter from 2002-2004.

His research interests are in nanophysics; nano-electronics; spintronics; nano-communication and networks; molecular electronics; nano-medicine and beauty  and nano-energy.

Professor Tingrui Pan received the Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China and both the M.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering and the PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota. In 2006, Prof. Pan joined the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of California, Davis as an Assistant Professor. His current research interests include innovative micro-nanofabrication technologies, nature-inspired micro-nano electromechanical systems and novel bioinstrumentations for ophthalmic diagnosis and therapeutics. He has authored and co-authored more than thirty refereed journal and conference publications and held several US patent applications. He currently serves on the Editor Board of Annals of Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Pan is a recipient of NSF CAREER Award and Xerox Foundation Award, and a co-recipient of NSF EFRI Award. He founds an UC Davis international education initiative – Global Research Experience in Advanced Technologies (GREAT) Program. He also co-chairs the International Contest of Applications in Nano/Micro Technologies (iCAN) in North America.

The development of integrated lab-on-a-chip systems, surface microfluidics, polymer micro-nanofabrication, bio-inspired surfaces and multifunctional biomaterials. Leading an active research laboratory, Micro-Nano Innovations Laboratory (MiNI Lab), equipped with micro-nanofabrication equipment, Dr. Pan has been extending the power of nanofabrication and microfluidics to a variety of biomedical applications, including a) diagnosis and therapy of ocular diseases, b) ultrahigh-throughput biochemical screening c) tissue/cell engineering, d) point-of-care diagnosis e) bio-sensing and manipulation and f) regenerative medicine.

Dr. Tharshan Vaithianathan completed his BE and MEngSc (1991, 1995) from Monash University, BAppSc from Swinburne University and his PhD (2001) from University of New South Wales. He spent 5 years at the University College London as a Researcher and before returning to Australia in 2004. He is currently the leader of biomedical devices and signal processing at National Information Communication Technologies Australia which is Australia’s leading centre of excellence for ICT.

His research interests include monitoring the oxygenation of the brain in babies non-invasively using near-infrared technology, using wireless technology to monitor equine health and mainly interested in developing low cost biomedical instrumentation for medical application.

Ahmed M. Safwat was born in Egypt. He received his B.Sc. with Honours from Kuwait University. He received his M.Sc. from Queens University, where he completed his Ph.D. work in two years. He joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Queen’s University in June 2003. He is the Founding Director of the Laboratory for Advanced Wireless Networks (AWN). Professor Safwat was the Co-Chair of the International Conference on Wireless Networks, Communications, and Mobile Computing (WirelessCom) 2005. He also served as the Publicity Co-Chair for the IEEE International Workshop on Information Assurance in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNIA) 2005. He was the Co-Chair of IEEE GLOBECOM 2004 Wireless Ad hoc and Sensor Networks. In addition, he was the Chairman of the IEEE IPCCC 2004 Workshop on Energy-Efficient Wireless Communications and Networks (EWCN). He was also the Chairman of the IEEE VTC 2003 Wireless Ad hoc and Sensor Networks Symposium. He also served as the Co-Chair of the Technical Program for the Workshop on Energy-Efficient Wireless Communications and Networks (EWCN) in conjunction with IEEE IPCCC 2003. He serves on the editorial and advisory boards of many international journals and conferences, respectively. Professor Safwat has been tasked to lead cutting-edge projects in the field of wireless networks and nanotechnology. He is the inventor of many landmark technologies, including PA-VBS, Q-GSL, ECPS, E2LA, A-Cell, ACA, ECCA, MTCD, ASRS, ISRS, PIMCM, R-MIMD, X-MIMD, and E-MIMD, among others.

Safwat′s research interests include but are not limited to, wireless networks, nanotechnology, nanomedicine, bioelectronics, stochastic processes, mathematical optimization and ubiquitous/pervasive computing.

Dr. Li-Qun Gu, an Associate Professor of Bioengineering at the University of Missouri, is leading an interdisciplinary laboratory that has a long term vision: integrating biomolecular engineering with nanobiotechnology to explore life science problems and to develop sophisticated molecular diagnostic tools for personalized medicine. He received the NSF CAREER award the NIH grant to develop ultrasensitive single-molecule technology for disease biomarker detection. He has published over 40 peer-reviewed papers in high tier journals including Nature, Nature Nanotechnology, Science and PNAS. The nanopore-nanosensor he developed can detect circulating microRNAs in cancer patient plasma, offering a non-invasive approach to screening and disease diagnose.

Tracking cellular components, probing biochemical reaction, investigating bio-transportation, protein-ligand recognition, special properties of designed biopolymers, detecting pharmaceuticals and pathogen traces. The Nanopore-based single molecule detection could also play important role in proteomics and genomics.

Dr. K Girish Kumar, born in 1962, obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in chemistry from University of Keral and obtained his PhD in chemistry from University of Kerala. From 1989-1999, he worked as a senior grade lecturer and reader in chemistry at Ganghigram Rural University, Tamilnadu, India. In 1999 he joined as a Reader and during 2007-2010 he served as the Head of the department and is currently working as a Professor of Analytical Chemistry at Dept. of Applied Chemistry, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi. He is a visiting professor at Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.

He has published over 65 articles in national and international journals and has presented about 70 papers in various seminars/symposia including invited talks. Yanbin Li is a co-founder of BioDetection Instruments. He is one of the leading experts in biosensors for rapid detection of foodborne pathogens. He has a Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering from Penn State, and is a Professor and Tyson Endowed Chair in Biosensing Engineering at the University of Arkansas. He has published more than 80 peer-reviewed journal articles.

His awards include the Kilby Young Innovator Award, the Fujitsu ISCS Quantum Device Award, Fellow of the American Physical Society, Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the IEEE Pioneer Award in Nanotechnology.

Siu-Tung Yauhas received PhD in Electrical Engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a professor of electrical and computer engineering at the Cleveland State University. Professor Yau has experience in nanostructures, protein crystallization, biosensors/bioelectronics and renewable energy.

Dr. Jing Wang is a Full Professor in Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of South Florida, which he joined since 2006. He got dual B.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering from Tsinghua University in 1999. He received two M.S. degrees, one in electrical engineering, the other in mechanical engineering, and a Ph.D. degree from University of Michigan in 2000, 2002, 2006, respectively. He serves as the chairperson for IEEE MTT/AP/EDS Florida West Coast Section and Director for the Wireless and Microwave Information (WAMI) Center. He has been elected as a member of the prestigious IEEE MTT-Technical Coordinating Committee on RF MEMS. He has served as chair or co-chair for IEEE Wireless and Microwave Technology Conference (WAMICON).

His research interests include micromachined transducers, RF/Bio-MEMS, lab-on-a-chip and microfluidics, functional nanomaterials, nanomanufacturing, and RF/microwave devices. His work has been funded for more than $10M by research grants from federal agencies (NSF, DTRA, US Army, US Air Force, etc.) and contracts from more than a dozen companies. He has published more than 120 peer-reviewed papers and held 10 US patents.

Najafi is currently serving with the University of Arizona, Department of Surgery and Department of Biomedical Engineering (Tucson, USA) since April 2012. He serves as Associate Professor of Surgery and the Director of interdisciplinary Consortium on Advanced Motion Performance (iCAMP), Member of the Arizona Center on Aging (ACOA), and Associate Member of Arizona Cancer Center (AZCC). Yu Lei is an associate professor at University of Connecticut. He received his PhD in the year 2004 at University of California-Riverside. His research concentrates on the development of various (bio)sensors. Many areas of medicine, the environment, and food and agriculture – ranging from the diagnosis of disease to new drug discovery, screening and food safety, as well as pollutant monitoring – involve the detection of biological and chemical species. Lei aims at development of novel, simple, ultrasensitive and universal biosensor platforms for the detection of biological and chemical species. Lei also involves the synthesis of nanostructured materials and their application. Nanotechnology is a strategic technology that holds the potential for great commercial rewards in the areas of electronics, medicine, environment, food and agriculture. Lei seeks to develop novel nanomaterials and apply them in sensing and biosensing.

Lee obtained his B.S. in Environmental Engineering from Chonnam National University, Gwangju, Korea in 1996 and his M.S. in Environmental Engineering from Korea University, Seoul, Korea in 2001. For five years prior to continuing his education, he acquired practical experience working on various environmental engineering projects including water/wastewater treatment plant design, sanitary sewer distribution system modeling, and development of advanced water/wastewater treatment technologies in GS E&C Co. (Seoul, Korea). He received his Ph.D. in environmental engineering from The University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, OH in 2009. Before joining UCF, he was an ORISE postdoctoral research fellow at U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), Cincinnati, OH. He is a registered professional engineer (P.E.). To date, his professional work and research has encompassed development and use of electrochemical microsensors for water quality monitoring, advanced water/wastewater treatment processes, and bio-plastic production using organic wastes. His previous USEPA research involved evaluating biofilm control strategies in drinking water distribution system and establishing a microsensor laboratory for biofilm research. His current primary research interests include environmental micro/nanosensors for in situ biofilm process and water quality monitoring, and nitrification prevention and biofilm control in the drinking water distribution system through the use of microelectrodes, molecular tools, microscopic observation, and kinetics modeling.

Anis Rahman is known for his work on Dendrimer based photonics and terahertz technology. He Coined the term “silicon for photonics” and his approach makes it possible to fabricate chip based components from dendrimer for sensing and terahertz generation. He proposed a new mechanism, dendrimer dipole excitation, that generated continuous wave terahertz over a broad spectrum. Under his leadership, dendrimer technology received prestigious awards including the NASA Nanotech Brief’s nano-50 award and CLEO/Laser Focus World’s Innovation award (2011). He completed MS & PhD at Marquette University (Milwaukee, WI) and a postdoctoral research position at Columbia University (NY).

Anis Rahman research expertise includes photonic waveguide gratings, DWDMs, chip-scale photonic integrated circuits (PICs), photonics design, simulation, characterization, and packaging; dendrimers; laser-evaporated direct-write of microelectronic components; and thick- and thin-films.

Thu-Hoa Tran-Thi received her PhD degree in radiation chemistry in 1983 at the University of Paris XI in Orsay. Since 1982, she has been a researcher of the CNRS (National Council of Scientific Research) at CEA (Atomic Energy Commission, Saclay), and is currently CNRS Director of Research. During 1982-97, her research interests included the photophysical and photoreactivity of porphyrins and phthalocyanines compounds, photochemical reactions in solution, amorphous solid state systems and organized media using fast and ultrafast laser spectroscopy techniques. In 1989, as an invited scientist at the University of Sherbooke in Quebec, she developed collaborative projects with physicists, theoretical chemists and biologists, and from 1990 to 2000 was Adjunct Professor. From 2000 to 2006, she was vice-president and president of the French Group of Photochemistry. Since 1998, she has also developed chemical sensors of air pollutants. In 2010, she co-founded the start-up ETHERA (www.ethera-labs.com) and in recognition for her research, was named to the French Legion of Honneur.She presently leads the “Chemical Sensors”team in the CEA-CNRS NIMBE unit and is also the scientific counsellor of ETHERA.She has directed 88 students including 16 PhD students and 28 postdoctoral fellows. She has published 90 articles and has 11 patents.

He has published more than 80 peer-reviewed journal articles.

Prabir Patra is currently an associate professor and a chair in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at University of Bridgeport, USA. From 2008-2012, he worked as a Research scientist at Rice University, USA. His research is to understand the fundamentals of biophysical science processes at a nano-scale and apply their underlying principles to develop hybrid material structure, properties, and arrangement through growth and modification for novel biomedical engineering applications. Keeping this as the central theme, his research is directed toward two major areas. The first area involves continued research efforts on polymer nanomaterials that emphasize creativity and collaboration in developing a new understanding on fundamentals and technology of multifunctional polymer nanocomposite materials and biologically inspired nanomaterials. She subsequently received a PhD in Physiology and Cell Biology from Albany Medical College, and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University Of Virginia School Of Medicine in Charlottesville. During this training, she gained expertise in cellular interactions with the extracellular matrix in both in vitro and in vivo models that she has used to develop her research program in the development of field portable cell-based biosensors. Li-Qun Gu, an Associate Professor of Bioengineering at the University of Missouri, is leading an interdisciplinary laboratory that has a long term vision: integrating biomolecular engineering with nanobiotechnology to explore life science problems and to develop sophisticated molecular diagnostic tools for personalized medicine. He received the NSF CAREER award the NIH grant to develop ultrasensitive single-molecule technology for disease biomarker detection. He has published over 40 peer-reviewed papers in high tier journals including Nature, Nature Nanotechnology, Science and PNAS. The nanopore-nanosensor he developed can detect circulating microRNAs in cancer patient plasma, offering a non-invasive approach to screening and disease diagnose.

Baohua Jia received her BSc and MSc degrees from Nankai University, China in 2000 and 2003 respectively. She was awarded a PhD in optics in 2007 from Swinburne University of Technology. Baohua has been working as a Project Manager/Project Leader for the Centre for Ultrahigh-bandwidth Devices for Optical Systems (CUDOS, an Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence) from 2006-13 managing the key flagship projects 3D bandgap confinement and Nanoplasmonic. Ibrahim Abdulhalim is a professor in Electrooptic Engineering at Ben-Gurion University. He worked in the academic institutions and companies such as the OCSC in UC at Boulder, the ORC at Southampton University, the Thin Films Center of the University of Western Scotland, in KLA-Tencor where he was the lead inventor of optical scatterometry for CD and overlay measurements, Nova and GWS Photonics. Gheorghe Pop is a clinical cardiologist, who finished medical school and got a degree in philosophy as well. He finished his medical PhD in 1992 at the Thoraxcenter in Rotterdam on the relation between heart and brain in patients with stroke. Michael Thompson obtained his PhD from McMaster University and following periods as a PDF at the University College of Swansea and Lecturer at Loughborough University, UK he moved to the University of Toronto where he is now a full professor. He has received many awards for his work including the Fisher Scientific Lecture and Steacie Awards of the Canadian Society for Chemistry and the Ontario Council of University Faculty Associations Award for teaching excellence. From the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK he has been presented with the Theophilus Redwood, Industrially-Sponsored Chemical Analysis and Instrumentation and Boyle Gold Medal Awards. In 2007 he was given the E.T.S Walton Award of Science Foundation Ireland and in this connection received a Visiting Scientist appointment at the Tyndall National Institute in Cork City. Additionally, he has presented a number of endowed lectures at several Universities including the Dow Lectureship, University of British Columbia, the University Lectureship, Concordia University, the Varian Lecture at the Ottawa- Carleton Chemistry Institute and the Leverhulme Trust Lectureship at the University of Durham, UK. Janet M. Wang-Roveda is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Arizona in Tucson. She received her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from the University of California, Berkeley in 1998 and 2000, respectively. She was a recipient of the NSF career award and the Presidential Early Achievement Award for Science and Engineering at White House in 2005 and 2006, respectively. She was the recipient of the 2008 R. Newton Graduate Research Award from the EDA community, and the 2007 USS University of Arizona Outstanding Achievement Award. Panicos Kyriacou received a BESc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Western Ontario, Canada, and MSc and PhD degree in Medical Electronics and Physics from St. Bartholomew’s Medical College, University of London. In January 2004, he continued his academic career as Director of the Undergraduate Programme in Biomedical Engineering (2004-2014) and Director of the Biomedical Engineering Research Group (2004-2014) at City, University of London. In August 2006 he was appointed Assistant Dean in Electrical, Electronic and Information Engineering (EEIE) at the School of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (SEMS), a post he held until 2009 when he was promoted to Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Associate Dean for Postgraduate Studies (2009-2014). In 2014, he was appointed Associate Dean for Research and Enterprise at the newly formed School of Mathematics, Computer Science and Engineering and Director of its Biomedical Engineering Research Centre. He served as Chair of the Physiological Measurement Group (2006-2008) and Chair of the Engineering Advisory Group (2010-2012) at the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM) and as Chair of the Instrument Science and Technology (ISAT) Group (2009-2012) of the Institute of Physics (IoP). Very recently he was elected to the prestigious position of Vice President Academia at IPEM. Since 2011, he is a member of the Royal Academy of Engineering panel for Biomedical Engineering and the Healthcare Science Advisory Group at NHS London where he acts as an Ambassador for Biomedical Engineering (National and International). He is a fellow of IoP, IPEM and The Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET). He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng), Chartered Physicist (CPhys) and Chartered Scientist (CSci). He also offers his charitable services to the World Health Organisation (WHO) and UNESCO in the field of medical equipment management in developing countries. In March 2017, he has been elected to the prestigious post of President of the European Alliance for Medical and Biological Engineering & Science (EAMBES).

His main research activities are primarily focused upon the understanding, development and applications of medical instrumentation, biosensors and clinical measurements to facilitate the prognosis, diagnosis and treatment of disease with a focus in the design of non-invasive optical sensors for the early screening of cardiovascular diseases and monitoring of blood gases and tissue biochemistry. His research pushes the frontiers of current optical and electronic technologies and demonstrates how such technologies can be used as non-invasive medical “tools”. He has authored and co-authored over 200 publications, and holds six patents with inventions in medical optical sensors. He has over 20 years of experience in leading major research projects funded by the main UK research bodies, EU and industry, and in the last decade, has attracted external funding of more than £4m as principal investigator to support all his research activities.

Fei Yuan received the B Eng. degree in Electrical Engineering from Shandong University, China in 1985, the MA Sc. degree in chemical engineering and PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Waterloo, Canada in 1995 and 1999, respectively. During 1985-1989, he was a Lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Changzhou Institute of Technology, Jiangsu, China. In 1989, he was a Visiting Professor at Humber College of Applied Arts and Technology, Toronto, Canada, and Lambton College of Applied Arts and Technology, Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. He was with Paton Controls Limited, Sarnia, Ontario, Canada as a Controls Engineer during 1989-1994 where he designed and commissioned total distributed control systems for petrochemical processes worldwide.

He joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Ryerson University in 1999 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2003 and Full Professor in 2008. He served the department as the Associate Chair for Undergraduate Studies and Faculty Affairs from 2002 to 2006 and was the Chair of the department from 2010 to 2015. He is a senior member of IEEE and a registered professional engineer in the province of Ontario, Canada.

Chenzhong Li is the Program Director of Nanobiosensing program at NSF since 2017. He is also the Professor and the Director of the Nanobioengineering/Bioelectronics Lab, in the Biomedical Engineering Department at Florida International University (Miami). He received his M.Sc (Electrochemistry) and Ph.D (Bioengineering, 2000) from Kumamoto University in Japan. He served as a post-doctoral research associate at the university of British Columbia and as professional research associate at the University of Saskatchewan and Adnavance Technologies, Inc. He worked at Nanobiotechnology/Biosensor Group of Biotechnology Research Institute, Canada National Research Council as Research Officer till 2006. He joined in FIU in 2006 and he is a full professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and an affiliated professor in the Department of Immunology at the College of Medicine.

The impact of his work is documented in 10 granted patents, about 130 peer-reviewed journal papers, 3 books, 7 book chapters, over 140 presentations including more than 110 keynote/invited lectures and seminars worldwide.

He is an expert in bioelectronics, specifically in the development of biomedical devices such as organ on chips and biosensors for Point of Care Testings. His research interests include wireless diagnostics, cell electronics, neuron-device interface, biomarker and nanotoxicity measurements, electronic therapy and electron transfer study of various biomolecules.

Shankar M Krishnan has over thirty years of broad spectrum international professional experience in biomedical engineering education, research and development, medical product design, clinical engineering, and project management. He served in management positions in academia, medical devices industry, and hospitals. He has held faculty appointments in Illinois, Miami, Singapore, and Boston. He is the founding Director of BME Department and endowed chair professor at WIT in Boston. At NTU in Singapore, he was founding Director of BME Research Center and founding Department and founding Head of Bioengineering Division. He worked in R&D at Coulter, hospital design and operations management at Bechtel for Healthcare megaprojects, and as Assistant Director at Massachusetts General Hospital, a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School. He has numerous publications and has given invited talks at several international conferences. During the past 11 years, he has significantly contributed to development of new activities of IFMBE worldwide and to the overall welfare of IFMBE. He keeps active memberships in IEEE EMBS, AAMI, BMES, and ASEE. He was selected to Phi Kappa Phi and Sigma Xi Honor societies, and is a Fellow of AIMBE. He was a member of a team which received the CIMIT Kennedy Innovation Award.

James Hwang is Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Cornell University. He graduated from the same department with a Ph.D. degree. After years of industrial experience at IBM, Bell Labs, GE, and GAIN, he spent most of his academic career at Lehigh University. He cofounded GAIN and QED; the latter became the public company IQE. Between 2011 and 2013, he was the Program Officer for GHz-THz Electronics at the U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research. He has been a visiting professor at Cornell University in the US, Marche Polytechnic University in Italy, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, East China Normal University, and University of Science and Technology in China. He is an IEEE Life Fellow and a Distinguished Microwave Lecturer. He is also a Track Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques. He has published more than 350 refereed technical papers and been granted eight U.S. patents. He has researched for decades on the design, modeling and characterization of optical, electronic, and micro- electromechanical devices and circuits. His current research interest focuses on electromagnetic sensors for individual biological cells, scanning microwave microscopy, and two-dimensional atomic-layered materials and devices.

Dr. Sandeep K. Vashist is the Global IVD Director, Pictor Diagnostics Pvt. Ltd in Germany. After completing his Ph.D. from Central Scientific Instruments Organization, India, in 2006, he was the Bioanalytical Scientist at Bristol-Myers Squibb Ireland (2006−2009), the Team Leader for point-of-care (POC) diabetic monitoring at NUSNNI, Singapore (2009−2012), and the Head of Immunodiagnostics at Hahn-Schickard, Freiburg, Germany. His research outputs include many successful technology transfers; several in vitro diagnostic (IVD) and POC technologies; more than 100 journal publications, 6 patents, 8 book chapters, more than 90 conference publications, many invited/keynote/plenary talks, and 3 forthcoming books. He has constantly received highly prestigious fellowships and awards for scientific research excellence and innovation. He is the Executive Editor, Editorial Board Member and Guest Editor for >10 high impact factor journals (Sci Rep, BB Reports, NPBR, Diagnostics, Sensors, and others). He is appointed BCA Ambassador and a member of SPRING and SGBC technical committees. He served as Technical Consultant for Ascendas Services Pte Ltd, Bronx Culture Pte Ltd and NIPO Pte Ltd. He has done outstanding research work on a novel low‐cost high‐volume aqueous silicacoating technique has been granted a US Patent (US 20130196057 A1). His research paper published by Nanoscale (Nanoscale, Impact Factor=6.739, DOI:10.1039/C4NR03306J) on “Noble metal nanoparticles coated with silica by a simple process that does not employ alcohol” was highlighted by popular online science magazines such as ScienceDaily, Physorg and A*STAR website. Separately, his research on microencapsulated phase change materials enhanced by highly thermal conductive nanowires (Journal of Materials Chem. In 2014, his’s phase change technology won two awards at Startup Asia 2014 for “Most Promising Idea” and “Most Attractive for Investment” Awards. Again in 2014, he has been selected as top‐5 finalist nomination for The IET Innovation Awards 2014 at London, UK (IET, Institute of Engineering & Technology) selected from over 400 entries from 30 countries. He won two “Highly‐ Commended IET Innovation Award” for both “Built Environment” and “Startup” category. For his studies, he won the JTC Overseas Undergraduate Scholarship to Tokyo University, and followed by A*STAR Graduate Scholarship for his PhD studies at NUS. He will bring along a wealth of industry experience to his new appointment. He worked in the building and construction industry as senior electrical engineer in Jurong Consultants Pte Ltd and Jurong Town Corporation JTC. Nanotechnology and Nanomaterials for green building applications and energy efficiency

Dr. Howlader is an Assistant Professor in Micro- and Nano-Systems laboratory of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. His research focuses on the design, fabrication, characterization and development of new materials and novel engineered components to create integrated sensing systems for environmental and health applications. In particular, he develops foundational technologies in the surface activated nanobonding to integrate flexible, soft and hard materials for the sensing systems that enable energy harvesting.
He is a member of Japan Institute of Electronic Packaging (JIEP), and The Electrochemical Society. He received the Best Technical Paper Award at the International Conference on Electronic Packaging in 2003.
He received his PhD degree from Kyushu University in Japan. As an Endowed Assistant and Associate Professor with the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Tokyo, he was engaged in teaching and research in the field of microsystems integration and packaging.

Dr. Alkhateeb is the Director of Assessment & Accreditation and Associate Professor of Pharmacy at Texas A&M Health Science Center Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy. Dr. Alkhateeb has been fortunate to hold a variety of leadership positions throughout his career, including serving as the Founder and Director of the Executive MBA with a concentration in Pharmaceutical & Healthcare Management at University of Charleston, West Virginia. Moreover, he has been selected as a Fellow for the Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Management Education (CAHME). Further, he has published more than 50 peer reviewed articles and over 44 presentations and proceedings related to pharmaceutical care, pharmaceutical marketing, and accreditation and assessment in pharmacy and higher education. Dr. Alkhateeb has served as a field reviewer and evaluator for the following accreditation councils: HLC-NCA, CCAPP, ACPE, ACPE- CPE, and CAHME. Moreover, Dr. Alkhateeb is a member of the 14th Annual Texas A&M Assessment Conference Planning Committee (College Station, TX). Besides being a pharmacist, Dr. Alkhateeb has an MBA degree with concentration in Pharmaceutical Marketing & Management from Aspen University and a PhD in Pharmacy Administration with a concentration in Pharmaceutical Socioeconomics from University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, Iowa.

Dr. Alkhateeb research interests focus on Pharmacy Education and Practice, and Pharmaceutical Marketing. Dr. Alkhateeb has been increasingly drawn to pharmaceutical education research and he is currently investigating the development, delivery and assessment of effective educational programs in schools of Pharmacy. Further, he has published more than 40 peer reviewed articles related to his research interests.

Professor Moses SS Chow was awarded his Doctor of Pharmacy in 1972 from the University of California, San Francisco, USA; and he completed his residency in Clinical Pharmacy at VA Hospital, Palo Alto, USA.Currently, Professor Chow is Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Director of the Center for Advancement of Drug Research and Evaluation (CADRE), College of Pharmacy at the Western University of Health Sciences, Pomona, USA. He is also an adjunct professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, China.

Dr. Chow has over 30 years of experience in transitional research and clinical studies in the areas of cardiovascular pharmacotherapy and application of pharmacokinetics/pharmacogenomics. His recent research work has been devoted to the development of conventional drugs and herbal medicines (Chinese medicines). He has also established a strong net work with Asian countries, especially China where he served as Director of the Pharmacy School in Hong Kong for 8 years. As Director of the newly established Center for Drug Research and Evaluation at Western U, the focus of his research will be the development of niche pharmaceutical products via formulation optimization as well as new therapeutic approaches. This will be accomplished via collaborative efforts among members in formulation science, bio-analysis/ pharmacokinetics, pharmacology/pharmacogenetics and clinical/outcome studies.

Dr. Hechmi TOUMI graduated from the University Blaise Pascal, Researcher assistant at Wisconsin University and awarded professor at the University of Wales, UK. He is currently a professor of Muscular Skeletal Pathology, the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology at the Orleans University France, Vice Director Laboratory EA 4708 - I3MTO and Vice President of the Institute of Research, Treatment & Prevention of Osteoporosis. Hechmi Toumi founded Demasq, Cardiff UK Limited in February 2008 and also serves as its Chief Scientific Officer. He is the inventor of the international patent filing on the use of algorithmic analyses to identify and quantify ‘invisible’ detail in soft tissues in standard radiographs. Professor Toumi is a Member of the Editorial boards the journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise and Journal of Foot and Ankle. His research focuses on Bone, Cartilage and soft tissue injuries. He has lectured worldwide on the Pathologies, Treatment and Prevention of muscular skeletal injuries.

His clinical interest is the assessment of pathoanatomical features of the Knee joint. He has developed a tertiary referral clinic for the investigation and management of knee pain with Professor John Fairclough highly qualified Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons at the CMAT centre (Centre for Musculoskeletal Analysis and Therapy, Cardiff UK) where there is provision both diagnostic and therapeutic rehabilitation and is widely used by professional and amateur sports teams and individuals. Dr. Ramaiah Muthyala holds Ph.D (Natural Products), Ph.D. (Heterocyclic Chemistry) and MBA (International Management). He is Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry. Among other awards, he received SC Amita award from the Indian Chemical Society. He has been editor or and coeditor of books, book chapters and has been in editorial boards of ARKIVOC, Mini-reviews in Medicinal Chemistry. For the last 12 years, Dr. Muthyala has been at the University of Minnesota where he was Associate Director, Center for Drug Design, and Associate Director (pre-clinical development) Center for Orphan Drug Research. He is also Associate Professor, Department of Experimental Clinical Pharmacology and Adjunct Professor, Department of Medicine. His research interests focused in rare diseases - the discovery and development of therapeutics for drug resistant bacterial infections, neurological diseases such as SCA1 and hemoglobinopathy such sickle cell disease. In his research, drug repositioning takes major emphasis to discovering drug leads.

The vision of our research program is to translate biological and chemical information into leads to drug-like molecules and optimize the lead small molecules to drug molecules using synthetic organic chemistry. The drug discovery will be combined with structure information obtained from ligand-protein structures, enzyme data derived from computational, modeling and biological experiments. The potential for speedy optimization of drug discovery, selective and carefully designed combinatorial small libraries along with rapid, sensitive and specific assay procedures are being explored. Natural products with desired biological activity at nanomolar range are considered as informed lead compounds for further development into drug candidates.

Filippo Boniforti has degeed at the age of 26 years from Universita’ degli Studi di Milano School of Medicine and specialized in orthopedics surgery. He is the director of the Orthopedic Department of the Fondazione San Raffaele Giglio di Cefalu (I). He has published more than twenty papers in reputed journals and serving as an editorial board member of repute orthopedic societies.

He leads orthopaedic hospital unit, 16 beds for orthoapedic treatments. He runs surgical theatre for more than 800 procedures per year. Hip and knee joint replacement (primary and revision) are the most significant filds of interest (>300 procs/year), pediatric orthopaedics and, proteogenomics.

Twenty years of experience studying of the role of the preotic anterior hypothalamic area in the central control of host defense mechanisms; LPS effects on neurotransmitters and hypothalamic releasing hormones, LPS-fever, and endotoxic hypotension, make me well suited to be the Principal Investigator in the project with Dr. Arnold Johnson as Co-Investigator. The proposal pertains to the elucidation of the role of preoptic hypothalamic endocannbinoids in the lung response to endotoxemia. After five years of postdoctoral research associate/instructor and research assistant professor positions at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the University of Tennessee, Health Science Center, respectively, I accepted a tenure track Assistant Professor position at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in the fall of 2005. I have been successful in transitioning from a purely Research environment to one that has more balance of teaching and research. I successfully taught large lecture pathophysiology and pharmacology courses, a small neuroimmunology elective course and a graduate topics course in inflammation and prostaglandins. At the same time, I have developed my lab to the point where it is producing publishable data and is attracting both undergraduate and graduate students. I obtained an R15 AREA grant in the field of LPS fever and fellowships for students in the lab. As a result, I was promoted to Associate professor with tenure. To date, I have mentored 18 undergraduate students (both B.S. and Pharm.D. students) in my lab. Recently, one of these students, Janey James, was accepted at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, NY, Graduate program. Three of my undergraduate students have competed for and received ACPHS Student Summer Research Awards to pursue research with me during the summers. I am also actively participating in mentoring students in the MS Pharmaceutical Sciences program with one of my graduate students successfully defending her thesis last week and accepted into the prestigious PhD program in immunology at Rutgers University. The undergraduate and graduate students in my lab have been major contributors to my research program in the last 9 years as evidenced by the publication/presentations in national and international meetings, and manuscripts under preparation/submitted (11, 12, 13, 15). In addition to these publications and presentations, students from my lab are the first author/co-author on two other manuscripts that are currently under review.

Upon completion of his doctorate in chemistry at The University of Tokyo in 1995 Dr. Yan joined the R&D group at Ibaraki Research Laboratory, Hitachi Chemical Industry Co. Ltd. where he carried out research works to develop sophisticated electronic components by utilizing functional polymers. After his research works on conductive polymers at Tokyo University of Science, Yamaguchi for 6 years, and on polymer gels and super water-repellent materials at Hokkaido University for 3 years, Dr. Yan joined the Laboratory of Organic Robotics at the University of Yamanashi in 2007 where he is an Associate Professor. Before his above career in Japan, Dr. Yan had been educated in China, i.e., in Jilin University (1978-1982) for Bachelor of Science on polymer chemistry and in Henan Institute of Chemistry (1984-1987) for Master of Science on inorganic chemistry. Dr. Yan who is a full professor of Zhengzhou University since 2011, has published 8 books, 59 original papers, and 31patents. Currently, Dr. Yan is also an Editorial Board Member, Journal of Bioequivalence & Bioavailability(OMICS Publishing Group, USA), and an Editorial Advisory Board Member, Recent Patents on Materials Science (Bentham Science Publishers, Ltd., USA).
